So since I changed my view on food, I have viewed the skin as an inside out thing, meaning the health of my skin comes from the health of my body.

With my skin care and body products I adopted a philosophy that if I wouldn’t eat it then I wouldn’t use it.

This meant I essentially used coconut oil for everything, and water the rest of the time.

You see, I didn’t want to absorb anything through my skin that would jump straight into my unsuspecting and unwelcoming blood stream, especially while I was on the autoimmune protocol (AIP).

I asked around over a fairly long period of time about why cleansing and daily routines were useful and I didn’t really get a response that resonated.

My only daily ritual was body boosting with almond oil, magnesium health spray and an essential oil, and that was more of a self care activity. I’d do magnesium baths with Epsom salts and some essential oils, coconut oil and magnesium bath salts every now and then, and used a dry brush when I remembered.

Months ago when I was at my favourite skin care studio in Sunshine Coast stocking up on electronic Aroma Bloom diffusers and essential oils – Twenty8 – I asked about why we used different cleaners and the like.

Kim Morrison kindly explained it aims to remove the dead skin cells without being harsh, and adds moisture and nutrition to help your skin. She then said ‘let me show you’. Knowing their products are chemical free, I thought ‘yep – why not’. And I proceeded to get a mini facial with her showing me various items. It was lovely. It made me think yep I should add this to my self care. And afterwards my skin felt totally different. I loved it. I didn’t know why but I loved it. I bought a number of items.

I started using two of those I’d bought, as they were easiest to incorporate. I enjoyed using these and how they made my skin feel.

Then I put the cleanser into the shower, and now I was using three.

And then yesterday I discovered the piece of info I was looking for. That skin cells regenerate every 24 hours – wow!

I discovered this as partner a handout by my naturopath on lifestyle cleansing. It’s the next phase of my AIP. My autoimmune antibodies have gone down, dramatically, and now I’m stage two we’re looking to build on the work done to heal, and help my body to absorb more of the nutrients through sequencing what I eat, adding in some additional foods slowly and specifically, adding in some lifestyle cleansing tips, and observing results with weekly diaries.

Once again I found my ‘why’, and funnily enough, I made time for a shower this morning as more of a priority. It included a dry body brush, face cleansing, and moisturising.

Yay. Love learning new stuff and putting it into action.

May your day be full of discovering why, and making why-se decisions.
